It all started the day Amy Anne Ollinger tried to check out her favorite book in the whole world, That’s when Mrs. Jones, the librarian, told her the bad news: her favorite book was banned! All because a classmate’s mom thought the book wasn’t appropriate for kids to read.

Amy Anne decides to fight back by starting a secret banned booked library out of her locker. But soon things get out of hand, and Amy Anne finds herself on the front line of an unexpected battle over book banning, censorship , and who has the right to decide what she and her fellow students can read.

 

The Boy Who Grew Flowers

The story of a young boy, Rink Bowagon, who lives on top of Lonesome Mountain with his unusual family of rattlesnake tamers and shape-shifters. The townspeople agree that Rink’s family are quite strange, but they are unaware of Rink’s spectacular gifts.

 

 

The Deepest Breath

Based on the book by Meg Grehan, written and directed by Cheyenne Mesura, is a coming of age story that centers on Stevie, a young girl who is reckoning with feelings about her friend Chloe. The play astutely grapples with mental health issues that highlights the anxiety a young person can experience when discovering their identity.

 

 

 

Flutter

Treehouse Shakers’ Flutter, a new play for babies ages 6-18 months and their caregivers, is a stunning new discovery play that introduces the very young to the four seasons. Conceived and written by Mara McEwin, with choreography by Emily Bunning, the piece is performed by three performers, who are the dancers, puppeteers and play-makers. Flutter explores the seasons through a sensory experiential journey of visuals, sounds, objects, some language, and an open concept of play.

 

Ghosts of War

Ryan Smithson was a typical 16-year-old high-school student until 9/11. “I’d thought about joining the military the moment I saw the towers fall,” he relates in this profoundly moving theatrical production.

The Littlest Cove

An immersive discovery play for the very young, ages 3-6. The Littlest Cove is full of wonder, visuals and tactile interactive experiences.The play follows the lives of 3 unusual creatures, who reside on the edge of a small coastal inlet, off of an island, that no one in the entire world has ever discovered before. Audiences soon discover that they too, are a part of this enchanting world and are immersed in the storytelling through play, exploration and community interactions with the set, props and performers.

 

Literature to Life

A performance-based literacy program that presents professionally staged verbatim adaptations of significant American literary works. The program gives students a new form of access to literature by bringing to life the world of the book with performances, discussions, and workshops that create an atmosphere of discovery and critical  thinking.
