Oran Etkin WINS The Grammy

February 13, 2012 by

We are thrilled to announce Oran Etkin has won a Grammy at last night's award ceremony.  He sent us this email earlier this morning:

I am very humbled and honored that we won the Grammy today for Best Children's Album! Last year we had the joy of being nominated for a different project with Russel Simmons and Moby and others, but didn't win then (Julie Andrews won). That album featured a track from my Motema release "Kelenia" with my touring band with Malian, Israeli and American musicians.  After that experience, the producers asked me to compose and record music for a new benefit CD to combat the growing problem of bullying.  That was the birth of "All About Bullies Big and Small", which won the Grammy for Best Children's Album today. All the profit from the album is donated to a charity helping kids by preventing bullying.

I composed, performed and recorded original music for this compilation CD, and it is a real honor to have it recognized in this way alongside so many great musicians that I respect! I got to spend time with many musicians that I find inspirational this weekend- Chic Corea, Joe Lovano, Esperanza Spalding, Alman Brothers Band and more. The comraderie and support between all the musicians at the awards was a joyful and uplifting feeling.

I am also happy that this Grammy win increases the exposure of the work with children that I am developing through my Timbalooloo organization. I hope it will help us continue fostering fluency in the language of music through concerts, CDs, music classes and videos for children.

Thanks!
Oran

The Moscow Circus Joins Geodesic Management

October 14, 2011 by

We are thrilled to announce THE MOSCOW CIRCUS has joined the Geodesic family.

Since the reign of Catherine the Great, the circus has played an important role in the rich cultural traditions of Russia. In Russia, the circus is regarded as an art form on par with the ballet or opera, a showcase for highly skilled and creative artists. With its rich tradition and enviable reputation, the Moscow Russian Circus remains the standard by which others are judged. We are privileged to bring to you the opportunity to experience one of the jewels of Russia's impressive cultural heritage.

The Moscow Circus productions are shows for children and adults alike. The production is a dramatic tale told and based on a foundation of circus arts and famed performers of The Moscow Circus, in a Theatre-Circus format. Combined with Russian folk dancers, musicians, ornate costumes and backdrops, the show combines drama, cultural history and, most of all, the excitement and entertainment that can only be created by some of the greatest circus performers on Earth!

What Presenters are saying about THE MOSCOW CIRCUS:

"As you know the audience response buying tickets was so great that we added a second show which also sold out. We have received many compliments from our audience and look forward to the next time we can engage the Moscow Circus. Many thanks..."

Michael C. Wolf, Cerritos Center

"The cast and crew were great and easy to work with. I have had FABULOUS comments from teachers who brought their students to the school performances, both of which had been sold out since last August. Also, I want to thank you for the two in-school visits that you did. Those school visits were the highlight of the week for me."
Erynn Smith - Executive Director, Anchorage Concert Association

                                                      -The Huffington Post

Oran Etkin scores Grammy Nomination

December 06, 2010 by

Oran Etkin is thrilled to announce that a side-project he has recently been working on has been nominated for a Grammy! The CD, "Healthy Food For Thought" features tracks by Oran Etkin, Russell Simmons, Moby, Sweet Honey In The Rock and many other great artists and was produced by Steve Pullara, Paula Lizzi, Kevin Mackie and Jim Cravero. It is dedicated to bettering nutrition in school food, with 100% of proceeds benefiting the NY Coalition For Healthy School Food and is nominated in the Best Spoken Word Album For Children category.

Etkin's track on the album, "Unique Monique", opens a window into two sides of his work. The music draws upon elements from Oran Etkin's Kelenia - a project he has with musicians from Mali that won "Best World Music Album" in the 2010 Independent Music Awards. The music slowly builds with a total of eight clarinets and bass-clarinets playing interweaving lines until the last section, where Malian Griot musicians Balla Kouyate and Makane Kouyate join in on balafon and calabash. On top of this music, Oran recites a playful poem that also teaches about healthy eating. It offers us a glimpse of Etkin's work with children through his Timbalooloo organization, which offers music classes for young children based on a new method that Etkin created for developing full fluency in the language of music at a young age. Naomi Watts, Liev Schreiber, Daphna Kastner Keitel and Harvey Keitel are amongst the parents that have endorsed this method and have enrolled their own children in the classes. Timbalooloo is also the umbrella for Etkin's performances for children and his latest CD, Wake Up, Clarinet!, which has won awards from the Parents Choice Foundation, Oppenheim and NAPPA!

Nick Motil

May 17, 2009 by Dan

Singer/Songwriter Nick Motil has signed to the Geodesic Management roster. Sharing the spotlight with artists Jason Mraz, Chantal Kreviazuk, The Verve Pipe, Keller Williams, Everclear, The Calling, Duncan Sheik and others; Nick Motil has sold over 5,000 copies of his music in just over two years. Three albums in three years and hundreds of shows later, Nick Motil is just getting warmed up.

Nick Motil creates songs you can relate to. His songs take you to a place you've never been, but feel like you've lived there all your life. His live performances capture you, draw you in, and make you sing along... even if you're unsure of the words. The humor Nick Motil displays on stage breaks the ice to an evening-long conversation in which the stage becomes a living room. Kick off your shoes and enjoy.

After all, "everything's better barefoot."

A Moving Sound

May 11, 2009 by Dan

Lonely Planet, producer of travel guides and the television program "Six degrees" which is broadcast primarily by The Discovery Channel, came into Taipei 9 months ago to film an episode of their show. They chose AMS lead vocalist Mia Hsieh as one of the featured characters on the program and show her leading a workshop as well as performing with A Moving Sound in concert at Taipei's beautiful Red Theater. AMS is wonderfully presented in the show with music from the CD beautifully woven throughout the program. Lonely Planet projects that this episode will be seen by an estimated 500,000 viewers in up to 100 countries.
